Spring Break 2022
After a two-year hiatus on our team’s annual Spring Break trip down to Lake
Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia, the team was finally able to
head down for a week out on the water from March 12 to March 20. The
team left campus early morning March 12 with cars filled with sleepy cheers
of excitement and anticipation for the week of focused training ahead.
Apart from the twice a day 2-hour sessions, the team enjoyed the warm
weather Georgia had to offer by grilling hotdogs and hammocking in the sun
between sessions. On select days, we took in the view on hikes at local state
parks, including Don Carter State Park and Chicopee Woods. The team paid
visits to Bruster’s ice cream shop, Cook Out, and Hickory Pig’s Barbecue, and
spent nights watching movies, playing card games, and cheering on
University of Illinois’ men’s basketball team from the Guest Lodge lobby.
Although the John Hunter Regatta was canceled this season, we were still
able to show off our progress and speed during a 1k race between our own
boats at the end of the week. Various alumni traveled down to help guest
coach boats, and all crews significantly improved over the course of the
week.
The team is demonstrating a promising start to the season and looking
forward to a strong racing season. The team will now be training for their
next tentative regatta, Red Hawk Sprints in Oxford, OH on April 9.
