The athletes had an early start to the day by leaving campus at 4:30 in the morning to drive to Eagle Creek Park. Despite the early morning, everyone was excited to compete and show their improvements on the water. The team persevered through the cold and windy weather to have a strong performance atone of the biggest fall regattas in the Midwest. After the races were done and the boats were loaded back on the trailer, it was bittersweet to seethe fall season come to an end. For our seniors, it was their last head race and it was the last regatta with our teammates who will be studying abroad in the spring semester. Emma Elmiger, a third year varsity member and Women’s Team President said, “I am happy I got to end off my fourth fall season with such a great group of people. I am going to miss the team atmosphere during the fall season because you get to push your endurance and each other to new levels”. Emma is excited to carry the fall season intensity over into winter training.
Looking back on the Fall 2019 season, each team has greatly improved. We are especially proud of the novices since most of them have only been rowing for about two months. Now, we are looking forward to a productive winter training that will lead to a successful spring season! The next time the team will practice on the water again will be when we travel to Gainesville, Georgia for spring break. In the meantime, we will be getting faster and stronger on the ergs!
