Head Coach Announcement
On Tuesday evening, the Illinois Rowing Association has made the difficult decision to release Cameron Carter as Head Coach of the University of Illinois Rowing Programs. We thank Cameron for his many years of support for this program. Not only has he committed himself over the past three years as Head Coach of U of I, he also provided support to our fledgling program early in our history while still a Head Coach at Washington University in St. Louis. His commitment to this program and to the sport of rowing in the Midwest are laudable. He is truly someone who values his athletes and has committed himself towards their success. We have a deep appreciation for the many ways he helped this program, and wish Cameron all the best in the future. We have named U of I Alumnus Cameron Skelding as Interim Head Coach of the University of Illinois Rowing Clubs. Cam Skelding had a notable career at the University of Illinois, including multiple State Championship gold medals, three-time 1st Varsity Honors, served as an inaugural member of the team integrity committee, and was the recipient of the Graduating Senior Award during his 4 year tenure as a rower for U of I. While at U of I, Cam spent his summers coaching at St. Ignatius and Recovery on Water in Chicago. Cam joins current Assistant Coaches Kelly Gullett and Nick Walker. We firmly believe Cam Skelding brings a critical element to our program in our quest towards the 2019 ACRA Championships. We are extremely fortunate to have Cam Skelding rejoin our organization and feel strongly that he is best positioned to continue leading our rowers here on campus.
