Spring Break Day 7

Today was a long day of practicing the course, starts, settles, and the lineups for the John Hunter Regatta. We fixed boats and stretched. Tomorrow is THE day. Tomorrow is race day. Tomorrow we head back to the course that we've called home for the past week to race crews from around the midwest at the John Hunter Regatta. John Hunter is the first opportunity we have to size ourselves up against the competition, gives the novices a taste of collegiate racing, and serves as the capstone of our spring break training trip. The team is fielding a full range of boats, including men's and women's varsity and junior varsity eights, varsity and junior varsity fours, novice eights, and a women's lightweight four. Racing begins with the men's and women's varsity eights at 8:30 and 8:45 respectively, so the team will be up and out of the hotel bright and early. Racing continues throughout the day and will finish up in the late afternoon.Today the crews went out in the morning to practice starts and building the rate up, then swung out and practiced drills to make some final adjustments before tomorrow. The afternoon practice was a chance for athletes to practice their small boat lineups for tomorrow and get in a final swing in their eight before racing tomorrow. This evening everyone met up by boat to discuss race plans, and each team met up to discuss the race day mentality.Stay tuned tomorrow for race day updates...
