Spring break is my favorite part of the rowing season! It’s a week spent getting to know both the novice and the varsity girls better and also a week where we make MAJOR improvements in the boat. My favorite spring break memories are winning third place in my novice eight last year at the John Hunter Regatta and also all the yummy dinners we ate as a team. Food and being fast are two of my favorite things:)

This morning we rowed through the course, building pressure and working on the catch. Timing is everything and we are really trying to get everyone driving into the water at the same time to match up as well as pulling all the way to bow through the finish. Yesterday we spent the practices in mixed lineups in eights but this mornings practice was one eight of varsity and one eight of novice. It was really interesting to feel the differences between lineups as practices progress. This afternoon we were in fours, myself being in the lightweight four for the first time this semester! Can't wait to continue practicing with the four we hopefully will race in more this spring!

Spring break is probably the most beneficial week of rowing in the whole year. This is my second year going on break and so far spring break has gone swimmingly and everyone is looking great. Last years John Hunter regatta resulted in our boat finishing third in the novice category. We are hoping for the same or better results as varsity rowers this year.

So far this week we have gotten time in eights and fours. We've been rowing on the square and working on our connection at the catch. Tomorrow we'll be holding an erg test before morning practice. The week has only begun and there is much more fun to be had.

We are able to truly build relationships as we are basically together 24/7. This time allows for a lot of improvements to occur since we all have so much time to work on it. I love practicing keeping my point on these lane lines and being on this course because I know it so well after being at Lake Lanier for last spring break and ACRA. Good to be back!
