Annual Awards Winners Announced
The official end to the season came with the end of season team banquet. At the banquet, several athletes were recognized for their exceptional achievements during the season.The Dan Walsh Trophy, named after the team's founder, recognizes one athlete who made the largest contribution to the advancement of the program off of the water. This season, Matthew Petruszak was recognized for his exceptional contributions as Boathouse Historian. His efforts significantly increased the public exposure of the team through the website and made large strides to keep in greater contact with the university community.Two new trophies were created this season to recognize the top male and female athletes.The Amy Cade Trophy, named after the program's first women's team captain, was created to recognize the female athlete of the year. The inaugural winner is Tiernan Evans. Tiernan, a three year rower and graduate is the first athlete to have completed her entire undergraduate career as a member of the rowing team. She demonstrated exceptional resolve this season, excelling to personal records and exceptional on-water performance.The male athlete of the year award was awarded to novice rower Aaron Sachs. Aaron demonstrated exceptional perseverance this season, finishing at or near the top of the team in testing, and performing well in competition all season. In addition, Aaron demonstrated the qualities of a strong leader among his teammates, and volunteered with the upkeep and maintenance of equipment.Sincerest congratulations to the three award winners this year, and all of their teammates this season.
